H.E. Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, met with Dr. Aishath Shehnaz Adam, Vice Chancellor of Maldives National University (MNU), to discuss strengthening academic and cultural cooperation.
The Vice Chancellor informed that MNU is close to finalising MoUs with the University of Dhaka and Bangladesh Maritime University, noting that DU has already sent a draft. She also mentioned MNU’s existing MoU with North South University. Dr. Yeasmin from MNU will coordinate further communication.
MNU expressed interest in inviting short-term lecturers from Bangladesh and receiving specialised training from Bangladeshi experts. With 21 universities under its network, MNU aims to expand joint seminars and collaborative programmes.
The Vice Chancellor shared that MNU has interviewed expatriate workers to understand their challenges, observing that many are unaware of where to seek help. She emphasised creating more awareness and also showed interest in offering Bangla language lessons for the tourism sector. MNU currently employs four Bangladeshi staff members and is keen to host Bangladeshi singers and dancers for cultural events.
The High Commissioner welcomed these initiatives and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in education, research, training, and cultural exchange.
