H.E. Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Waheed, Minister of Youth, Empowerment, Information & Arts, on 27th October 2025.
During the meeting, the Minister briefed the High Commissioner on the ministry’s initiatives to empower youth, noting that around 18% of the Maldivian population are young people and that many lack access to higher education. He expressed interest in enhancing cooperation with Bangladesh, including the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the future.
The Minister also acknowledged the vital contribution of approximately 140,000 Bangladeshi nationals to the Maldivian economy, stating that their role is indispensable for the country’s development. The High Commissioner appreciated the Minister’s remarks and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to working closely with the Maldives in youth development and capacity-building initiatives.
